Excellent Starter Instrument

I purchased one of these dirt-cheap and have had it for several months. What a bargain! The action was initially far too high, but it comes with simple instructions for lowering it (loosen all the strings and turn the bridge screws).

The intonation is adequate for an entry level instrument, though not perfect. The mandolin is also without a truss rod, so I believe neck warping is in its future. I'm not too concerned, however. By that time I'll have decided how aggressively I want to pursue the instrument, and will purchase an appropriately priced one.

I've played this instrument in front of people with acceptable results, and I've used it to record as well. If you think you might like to learn the mandolin but are hesitant to plunk down several hundred dollars for a nice one, get this.

The bag is decent. It'll protect against knicks and minor bumps, but a good bang against a

this rogue is one of the best deals i have ever gotten on a mandolin. the sound has something to be desired, but even so, this is a really good deal, especially for beginners.

First Stringed Instrument

My left fingers have still not gotten tough enough for playing good basic chords yet, but otherwise I think that it has a good sound and a cheap price with the fact that it comes with a case, strings, and a strap. I got it wit 2-5 shipping and it came at the minimum, so that was pretty cool. I'm a beginner though, so yeah.

I am very pleased with the overall playability of this mandolin. Especially, considering the price was so low. This being my first mandolin, I'm sure I will upgrade, but not anytime soon.

...which is a decent set of strings, a fairly decent gig bag, a nice, leather strap, and a small, wooden box with some strings attached to it. This Mandolin sounds like a toy, and regardless of cost, I don't think it's a good deal. I got one just a few days ago, and it's the tinniest (not small, but like TIN, as in sound quality) instrument I've ever played. I learned how to play on an off-name Mandolin from the '70's and it beat the hell out of this Rogue. I think I'll send it back and get an Epiphone or a Fender.
