This banjo is great for the price! I bought it as a person who has no idea what they're doing on the banjo and I think it's great. I had to take it to the local music store to get the bridge put in and get it all ready but after that it was ready to play, and I've been playing ever since. Once again, a great buy.

I figured that a "Learn the banjo starter pack" would get me from nothing to at least picking out my first few notes. This is more like a "banjo kit" with no instructions. You won't take this instrument out of the box, tune it, and start practicing. It comes to you in a completely unusable state. Fortunately, I am able to research and figure out how to do things like adjust the head tension, adjust the neck, adjust the tailpiece, place the bridge, etc. Only the neck adjustment is described in any documentation received with the banjo.

The chord book and DVD are fine for the more advanced user, but useless for the complete beginner (like me). I am not unhappy with the purchase. The instrument is really quite good for the price paid. Customers should be aware that they need to take this banjo out of the box and go immediately to the local experts to set it up unless you already have those talents. Of course, the store people will give you "the eye" because you didn't buy a qualty, already-set-up instrument from them.

A nice little lady brought this banjo into my shop to change strings for her. I noticed 2 were broken. She hadn't played it yet. Before changing strings, I had to tighten the neck, dress frets 5 thru 14, and had to do major work to the tail piece. The string holes in the tail pc. had to be enlarged as it was too much of a bend and caused undo stress on the strings causing breakage. The tail piece could be changed. Bottom line is: If you buy a cheaper instrument, take it in to have it properly set up and adjusted, you'll be glad you did. The lady now has a decent playing banjo that is not hard to play. Although it cost her $100 more, it is still good value for an entry level instrument.

Great Busking Banjo

I bought this for my girlfriend and myself to use for busking (street performing) Since it is cheap I am not afraid of drunks grabbing it or strangers wanting to play it. I can take it to the beach, and play it in the cold. I had a guitar shop install a better bridge, new strings, and give it the once over. Now it sounds better, louder, and even stays in tune for a good while. I would like a better one but this will certainly do for now.

I bought it for a starter. There was no directions for installing the bridge. The bridge has no groves to keep the strings spread. quality is questionable. the tuning pegs are cheap quality. Price is good so I guess you get what you pay for. Wish I had spent a little more?
