Buying this banjo started as a joke....

While at work one night a buddy said I should buy a banjo (because of where I live) so I purchased this one as a joke. When it came in, I could not believe how great this thing looked for the price. I was so impressed I began to learn it and for a "starter" banjo, it is great. First off I changed the strings and every now and then the 5th string tuner can be a pain, but for the price you cant pass up this instrument. This is the first sting instrument I have ever learned to play and it was well worth the money!

I just bought this, and while it is my first banjo, its seems fine. You just have to set it up right. Sounds good, nothing was broken, but you should replace the strings. Other than that, it seems to be very adjustable. The 5th string friction tuner is a pain, and the other tuners are not great. Just read up on how to set up a banjo and you are set.

I needed a banjo sound for some compositions I am working on, but did not play. I play fingerstyle guitar. I bought this banjo in hopes I could teach myself and get what I needed without spending a heap. This banjo is terrific, a very solid instrument. The workmanship is solid and the tone very pleasing. The only thing I don't like is the friction tuning peg for the 5th string; I plan to replace it soon. Other than that it has terrific tone and I am having fun seeing how fungible my fingerpicking skills are from one instrument to another. Definitely worth the bread, and as usual, Musician's Friend outdid itself in service. Ordered on a Monday, received on a Thursday, well packed and undamaged. Kudos!

This is a good banjo for the price. Parting with a few dollars and getting this in return will make you feel like a con-artist. But before you buy this, think about what you are wanting to buy. The entire pot/flange is one aluminum ring, and there is no tone ring, which I believe gives more punch and less warmth. Because of this, there is little room for customizing and upgrading. Tuners and strings are all you can do to make this thing better without paying for more than you paid for it in the first place. With that said, the finish is flawless on mine and needs no improvement, as well as the Remo head, which gives this a much better sound. If you were to replace the aluminum pot, and leave everything else (even the barely par tuners), you would have a pretty solid banjo that would only come out to the price of a Fender of equal quality.

My Impressions of Rogue B-30 banjo

I purchased the Rogue B-30 Banjo to get reaquainted after 35 years away from it. I was impressed with the fit and finish but not with the strings and did a little tweaking as had "G" string fret rattle, a minor adjustment on neck rod truss settled that and certainly change the strings as I did. Now am really enjoying re-learning the Banjo and the impressive dura-foam gig bag aswell. Solid stuff this Rogue. They're beginning to learn the fin-tuning of building string instruments. Buy it, you'll like it!
