This was my first uke that I bought. It is a great starter uke! I would definitely recommend this one if you are seriously wanting to learn how to play but don't want to spend the money. The sound you get is not like any of the cheap ukes out there once you change to new strings. I used Aquila's which made it sound much brighter/fuller. It's worth every penny! If it doesn't sound good, you won't want to play.

This is my first Uke and I love it. I tried it out along with 1 or 2 others at a local store but they were sold out when we went to buy. I joined a uke club and play it almost every night. It sounds great. Takes a few weeks for strings to start holding a tune for longer then an hour but I'm told that's normal by other uke players. I like the size and the sound really carries. It doesn't cramp my fingers but it's totally portable. I play all sorts of Hawaiian tunes on it from Iz to Makaha Sons and they sound amazing. The inlay on the front adds a nice touch.

Overall, I'm satisfied with this instrument. For the money, it plays, sounds, and looks as good as one can expect for an $100-200 range ukulele. Just remember, it is made of laminated wood (plywood). So, don't expect breathtaking tone. Pros: From a distance it looks stunning, it has decent playability, stays in tune, and sounds fairly nice. Cons: The workmanship (sloppy finish around the headstock, binding had marks from when it was fretted, nut was glued with a slight angle), and slight intonation problems. Overall, you are getting what you pay for. However, of the cheap ukes, this one looks and sounds far above average. I would recommend this for beginners. If you are looking to upgrade, save up and buy a solid wood ukulele.

I love the soft mellow tone of this Koa laminate gem even with the GHS strings. It plays well and looks wonderful. My only complaint is that it excites envy in my students who are learning on cheapies that have a bright harsh sound. I tell them they have something to look forward to and to earn it when they deserve it. So practice!

I started playing the ukulele in June on a Hohner starter uke, but felt I wanted something a bit nicer and was led to this piece of beauty. It ships with ghs strings, but do yourself a favor and install Aguila strings, it'll knock you out! What we have here is a tremendous quality instrument at a great price. Buy it, it's guaranteed to raise a smile!
