Improperly Strung, out of the box

I'm a newbie to Uke's. Overall tone is good EXCEPT it won't hold a tune. Maybe the nylon strings need a while to stretch out? Out of the box, the C string was only wrapped around the peg two wraps and cut off short, so it kept slipping. I attempted to put on a new string, but it's a lot trickier than a guitar - Uke strings have no "ball end" and are tied in a wierd loop/knot around the bridge. I wish the Oscar Schmidt factory had a little better quality control, then I would have given it a 5 in overall value.

Ive had this uke for about a month now and I've had absolutely no problems with it. Its previous owner however had snapped the bridge from the body with over tuning but that was easily fixed with some wood epoxy. Overall I'm in love with this model. I've played others and I think this is the best I've played for the value. No real complaints about it other than its lack of ability to stay in tune, which isn't really that big a deal.

Nice Starter!

I'm quite impressed by my new Oscar Schmidt OU3 Concert Ukulele. It is certainly very pretty, with only one very small blemish (near the nut on the underside of the neck, where it can't be seen). And while I'm not an expert on how a uke should sound, I've seen and heard plenty of 'em, and the OU3 sounds just fine to me - certainly good enough for a "starter" uke. It's not a "top quality" ukulele, but it's not a cheap toy either. I expect to be using this little gem for a long time to come, and can recommend it as a fine first uke.

I'm a guitar & bass player.. I thought playing the UKE would be fun & I know they are becoming popular again, so time to add it to the repetoire. I played a number of models & purchased the Oscar Schmidt OU3. The UKE is well made & nicely finished. It plays well but I suggest tossing the strings it comes with for something nicer like Martin strings. The sound comes alive with the "crystal clear" style. Also, the Oscar Schmidt gig bag is a bargain, really nice. I suggest purchasing the Hal Leonard UKE chord book as the chordage is a mystery from what a guitar player is used to. Aloha ya'll.

Look ain't everything!

The Oscar Schmidt OU3 is a beautiful instrument in a showy way. It looks good and will create an impression. But after it's appearance, everything else is a bit of a disapointment. It's playability falls short of less expensive ukes, with tone that is far short of mellow. The nut was poorly cut on my instrument, thus there was an unpleasant buzz that could only be solved by replacing and recutting the nut. The action was too high for comfort, and there were some intonation problems. A playable instrument, but not by that much. Looks ain't everything.
