Walnut Hickory Sunset

The Legacy Dragonfly Flame is a top of the line Michael Kelly mandolin. The centerpiece of the Dragonfly model is the unique vine carefully inlaid into the fingerboard. The inlay, made from real pearl and abalone, gives this mandolin a truly custom look. The Flame is also equipped with a radiused fingerboard that is very comfortable to play. Many players feel that a radiused board improves their performance. The "Flame" in the Dragonfly Flame comes from its stunning solid flame maple back and sides. For improved tone, Michael Kelly has equipped this model with its proprietary one-piece tailpiece that adds ring and resonance.

Michael Kelly is proud to offer the widest variety of mandolins available. Since they own their own factory, every MK mandolin is built with care to produce the best tone possible. All Michael Kelly mandolins, from the least expensive to the most, feature solid wood construction. With additional features like Grover® tuners, radiused fretboards, scooped fretboard extensions and dovetail neck joints, Michael Kelly mandolins are truly "Built on Sound".

Mine can compete with the Gibson mandos

First of all, Im sorry for the player below me... Mine came with PERFECT fit and finnish, a case, a Tshirt, and the case even smelled like vanilla for like two years and I still have no idea why.

In all honesty, I love this mandolin, Ive had it for three years now, and it is my top mandolin. Acoustic? Ive gone and played some Gibson mandos at the same place I got this one, and in all honesty, mine sounds just as good, and in some cases, better than the multi thousand dollar Gibsons. Electric? I went and put a 2nd level Fishman Bridge Pickup on this thing, and it gets the sweetest tones, It can also take a pretty big hit of distortion. Im so used to it, the bowed fretboard made me spoiled and I just cant get over the feel of it. The inlay is just a plus, its just great, no questions. In all honesty, I got this as a gift from my grandfather and dad, and none of them play an instrument, but they do listen to alot of music. When they went to the Michael Kelly tent at Merlefest, the MK guys ran them trough the basics, and then the guy pulled it out from under the table and began playing it, and both of them swear it had the best sound of any of the other instruments in that booth. Anyways, I love this mandolin for the looks, the INCREDIBLE sound that I just haven't found any need to replace it yet. Im just going to keep this mandolin for as long as I can, because Ill bet I dont need to get another acoustic, because it just wouldn't make since trying to show up this beast with some other mandolin.

Quality Control-non-existent!!!!!

I purchased the Michael Kelly Dragonfly mandolin. After playing it for a few days and becoming familiar with it's many flaws, I decided to return it. First off, the neck has a bow in it that refuses to be corrected using the truss rod. Workmanship is sloppy and fret edges will draw blood. An excellent mandolin could have been made with these materials but when you don't cross the T's and dot the i's it's a waste. THere is barely any "flame" to the alleged "flame maple". What a shame.
