The new Blues Bender P.A.C. harmonica features Patented Acoustic Covers that are based on the design of the Marine Band Harmonica, which is the all-time favorite for serious harp players since 1896. The Blues Bender was designed primarily to make playing and note bending easy for entry level players. Originally patented by Jacob Hohner in 1897, the special shape of these covers increases the volume of air enclosed between the reeds and cover-plates which, when thrown into vibration and vented through the special side vents, allows for greater volume and projection. The Blues Bender P.A.C. features thicker than normal reed plates for a consistent tone. It is extremely airtight between the mouthpiece and the reed plates, allowing for easier note bending and making expressive playing easier. The Blues Bender P.A.C. allows everybody access to the bluesy notes needed to make any riff complete.

Hohner Blues Bender P.A.C. Harmonica Features:

  • Airtight construction for easier note bending
  • Patented Acoustic Cover plates that allow for greater volume and projection. The shape of the cover increases the volume of the air between the reeds and cover plates which, when thrown into vibration and vented through the special side vents improves both volume and projection.
  • Thicker reed plates for consistent tone
  • Long lasting reeds

Not bad for a cheap harp

This harp fills a nice niche in the Hohner line. It is inexpensive enough to carry in your pocket or car and yet plays well enough not to frustrate you. Make no mistake, you won't confuse it with more expensive harps. It is a cheap Chinese harp but unlike most cheap Chinese harps it is playable. A while back, for kicks I took a community college harmonica course for beginners and needed something that wouldn't sound too out of place with the rest of the class who were playing the give away Blues Bands that came with their book and tuition. I wanted something that you could play but wouldn't sound too out of place. I had noticed in the past that pro quality harps cut through the noise of a class room exercise like a knife through butter regardless of how softly you play. I bought one of these and really had no complaints. It played well enough, was actually pretty easy to bend but still didn't sound out of place. I got my money's worth and later gave it to a pro guitar player I jam with sometimes who wanted to take up the harp.

Good for the $

The Blues Bender doesn't have the bright tone and attack of the Marine Band or the Golden Melody but I find it to be about as good as the Blues Harp. Just cheaper. If you know how to tune and adjust a harp you can get a lot more out of these.

Add more models to the PAC line

I like the concept of the PAC line. The Blues Bender is a good first entry in this line, but I hope Hohner will add some more models. Ideally, I'd like to see The Old Standby upgraded to the German made PAC line. Where The Blues Bender is a model geared for easy bending, the Old Standby PAC would be a higher quality all-purpose harp, with a fuller tone. They should give it reed plates similar to the Marine Band's, or consider phospher bronze reeds, like the Bushman Delta Frost and Suzuki Bluesmaster. A third model Hohner should add to the PAC line should be an upgraded American Ace. This model should be aimed toward Country players.

This is a good med grade hohner harp. Its probelly the best in there budget line before stepping up to the special 20 or big river harps. Plays nice, I have a C and G bends easy has a loud projection of sound the only drawback is that you cant replace the reed plate. But its probelly the best off there lower priced harps. I have it in a box with some nicer harps a lee oskar and hering enstead of having them with my cheaper harps Huang and swans I keep them in another box.

Good New Product

I think Hohner has a winner here. From a novices point of view, I think I have finally found a harp that I can express myself with. These new Blues Benders respond nicely to everything my mouth does. They feel good in the hand, being shorter than my Lee Oskars, and they have a good mouth feel. The cover plates were patterned after the Marine Band, but are a little fatter than a M.B. where your lips meet them. All the reeds on mine worked, right out of the box, and they seem airtight. The reed plates are held to the comb by four screws, and constructed so the owner can service the harp at home. The hole dividers seem a little thicker than on some of my other harps, but not enough to make chording difficult. Overall a very easy harp to play, and affordable enough to allow a workerbee like me to collect all the keys. Would like to hear a professional player really give one of these a workout, and tell me what they think.
