Offering a new sound for bass players, the Banjo Bass has an uncanny resemblance in tone to an acoustic upright. It allows extremely quick hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides and is especially suited to slap techniques. A slim maple neck and 13" maple body and head make the Banjo Bass a comfortable instrument with impressive low-end tone. Features include a sliding mag pickup, a Remo PTS pre-tuned head, radiused fingerboard, quick-change tailpiece, rosewood thumb rest, bone nut, and high-quality tuning machines.

Awsome Bass!

This is a nice experimental instrument. It sounds great for funk and acoustic rock. For the price, it should come with resonator; but Gold Tone sells them instead. For the best results, use acoustic bass strings. For best recording results, use the instrument cable for bass and mic for twang.

The banjo bass has an extremely dark tonal quality, it's a fun instrument to play for a change of pace although, it's uncomfortable as hell! It needs a backing that won't take away the tone and the armrest needs to be repositioned.

Well made, poorly designed

Several design gripes with this one: Brackets are too low to attach a standard banjo strap, so I had to rig up something using key rings. The armrest is in the wrong place, and due to its design, cannot be repositioned. The open back with the steel rod running across it gets quite uncomfortable after playing for a while. The neck is off balance, top-heavy. An optional resonator back is available from Gold Tone but I found the instrument is better without it. Volume knob only; no tone control. It doesn't really sound like an upright but it does have an amazing dark tone that makes it worth keeping despite its many flaws.

It sounds pretty good but it's not the best it needs perfection. It's hard to sit it on your lap and play {lol}.
