Great for Celtic

This mandolin is beyond a steal. When you get it, take it and have it set up, restrung, and replace the tailpiece. Cost me extra, but now you couldn't tell if it were an Epiphone or a Gibson without looking at the headstock or pickguard. I highly recommend this mandolin to anybody!

Beautiful instrument for such a low price. Felt good and easy to play from the beginning. Have had it a few years now and have been very happy with it. Just a little extra vibration here & there, but still sounds very good. Great value & nice looking.

I bought this new in 2002. Now 2007, the tuners are completely shot, wobble, and the bushings fall off each times strings are changed, frets rutted. The nut has come unglued several times despite proper setup and maintenance. The top is no longer a gentle arch but a plateau; 5 years of tension have crushed it flat, and not just where the bridge sat, but the whole area. Tone is not rich, or smooth or mellow, but better than competition in price range. Playability and feel are really on par with much more expensive instruments, I was surprised by that. I like the chunky neck. Volume is limited, same with projection. You get lots of highs only because the lows don’t resonate with chunky tone and volume. I say either save up another $250 and get a solid top model, or go with a Kentucky A-style which has better tone and the same playability. Also be sure to learn how to set it up properly. I have used .10 gauge strings 99% but tried other gauges for better tone/volume to no avail. Overall it beats competition of other brands but doesn't hold up over time.

I'm a guitarist so this was my first mandolin. It has a nice tone and is fairly easy to play. The quality is very good for an instrument so inexpensive. I had to do the setup myself but it wasn't to difficult. I'd highly recommend this to anyone just starting out.
